Training Overview

The Education Specialist Training can be found in the ES Handbook on your school’s website. It is designed to walk the new ES through each facet of the handbook in an organized manner allowing the ES to choose to work through portions most pertinent to their situation as the needs arise.

1) You should be receiving an e-mail from both your ES Advisor and your Area Facilitator. If you do not, please contact Catherine Miller at cmiller@ieminc.org or call her at 800-458-7050 #9. The e-mail from your advisor will give you directions for obtaining a password for a mandatory school e-mail account and for downloading the school's WEBfiles where you will do your training exams and submit work.

2) Start reading through the Training Section of the ES Handbook. The Introduction and Phase 1 must be done before students can be assigned. Read through each item listed in the phase, (all items are links from the ES Handbook and can be found there for future reference), and then proceed to the tests. The tests are located in your WEBfiles under “Create” ES Test. If you have trouble creating the test of your choice, please call your ES advisor. (When taking the tests, please click on the question to fully view all answer options.) You must pass the tests in all phases before your training is complete. To view your progress in the training, go to "view" ES detail in WEBfiles, and click on "Training Tracker".

3) If you would like to explore ES WEBfiles (learning how to do a report card, learning record, etc.) but do not yet have students assigned, you may enter the generic password given to you by your advisor, and then use the this to log in ES1223, password estr2006. These are fictitious files that you can "play" with.

4)It is the responsibility of each newly hired ES to call their Area Facilitator to coordinate a time to observe an ES visit with their "AF" as soon as it can be arranged.

The ES Observation Visit form must be mailed/faxed to Shara Langford at the IEM office (see address on form) to show completion of this requirement.

(It would also be wise for you to contact the vendors on the suggested vendor list and request a catalog from each. This will enable you to order materials during your first parent meeting.)

5) Phases 2-14 can be completed in any order, but the ES must complete at least 6 phases in the first month starting on the date than an e-mail is received from their advisor about the training, and any remaining phases in the second month. (If an ES is unable to complete at least one phase per week, they are subject to a suspension from receiving additional transfers and prospective students, potentially leading to a drop in student count.)

Phases 2-7 are recommended for starting, unless you have high school students and would like to start with Phase 11… the choice is yours). It is recommended for CWCS that you complete Phase 15 as soon as possible so that you can demonstrate the program to your parents when they enter our school.

As you complete the reading and any video viewing (if applicable) in these phases, take the corresponding Phase test before progressing to a different phase. The tests are accessed in the ES WEBfiles. E-mail your advisor as soon as you have completed a test. Each phase must be passed with 100% accuracy, so if you receive an e-mail or phone call in reply asking for corrections, please respond. (If you are having troubles making corrections to your ES test. You must click once on the correct answer, wait a second and then click again. This needs to be done only the first time that you are making a correction after opening Citrix afresh. During that same session, all other clicks respond immediately.) If a phase indicates that you should view a video, the video cds are available from your area facilitator.

Here is a link to a list of vendors recommended by the advisors for you to call to obtain catalogs.

New ESs will receive a mid-year evaluation at the end of the first 6 months of employment.

Any questions or concerns should be directed to your ES Advisor. The Advisor Team is waiting to help you! J
