CWCS Phone Interview Questions

Prior to enrolling a sibling of currently active students, use these questions and suggestions to start discussions that will help see if the school will fit the student’s needs and the parent’s expectations.

1)   Has your child ever had a special education IEP, or plan for speech therapy, 504, or anything like this?  _________

If so, have you been contacted by the Special Ed department and have you provided them a copy of your last IEP?____________________________________________

If they have been contacted, then all is well—proceed.  If not, then stop enrollment and tell the parent they need to submit their last IEP to the Special Ed department prior to enrollment. Immediately upon leaving the enrollment meeting, contact Student Assignments with this information.

2) What would you like to see our school do for you to support you in working with your child?

This will be a time to then correct any misconceptions they are bringing with them (such as that we will send a daily tutor to their home) about how the school works and what we can provide.

3) How old is your child?  Tell me about his/her study habits. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

5) Are you willing to take your child(ren) to a testing site that may require some travel time to take required standardized tests for 2-4 testing days? ____________________________________________________________

6) Is your student currently enrolled in school?

If so, why are you leaving your current school?

Have the student ever been expelled

7) If student is in 11th or 12th grade and has not passed the CAHSEE. Your student will be required to use our suggested curriculum and attend CAHSEE prep courses and whatever required remediation necessary to help her/him pass the CAHSEE. Are you able transport your student to a learning center or tutoring sessions on a weekly basis?

Explain where to obtain a copy of our school charter and ask them to read it prior to the Enrollment Meeting. Have the parent have the following information for you at the time of the Enrollment meeting.
