REVISED 8/2008

CWCS Centralized Intake

All new students must be enrolled through the Centralized Intake. At this time, the only exception is for those students who have siblings who are already active students in CWCS. Siblings will be enrolled by the family’s regular ES.

The Intake process will be completed by a CWCS Intake ES at the Modesto Learning Center and/or the Waterford Office. Once a complete application for a student has been received and processed by the office, the family will be contacted by the Intake ES by telephone for an interview. If, after the interview is complete, the intake ES agrees that CWCS is a feasible option for the student’s educational success, they will give the parent directions for signing up for an Intake Meeting. The names of the students approved for intake will be e-mailed to the Intake clerk so that only those students approved after the interview will be scheduled.

At the Intake Meeting, the students will

-take the Scantron Pre-test (if during intake occurs during the current school year. Students enrolled in the Spring or Summer prior to the next school year, will need to take Scantron at the beginning of the new school year.)

-be enrolled by the Intake ES using the Intake Meeting Information Sheet. The student agreement will be completed at this time, but some changes to the first page may be needed.

-receive some assignments and curriculum to use until they meet with their regular ES. If the family would like to order the curriculum given to them at this time, see Central Intake Curriculum for more information. Here is a list of curriculum given to students at intake. All items, even consumables (unless all used up) are to be returned by the ES when a student drops so that they can be used for another incoming student. The items highlighted in yellow are the grades, items in green are English curriculum, and items in purple are Math curriculum.

- if High School, have their picture taken for an ID card

High School students will have their transcripts analyzed by CW Guidance and will be assigned courses. To see the placement recommendations go to “view” Students in FRED, and click on the student number, then click on the yellow “Placement Recommendations” button on the right side of the screen.(These courses may be changed, if needed, by the assigned ES, but it is highly recommended that they be followed. The transcript of the student has been reviewed and in some cases the previous school has been called to ensure proper course placement. If the assigned ES makes changes from an a-g class to a general class it should be done so with the parent’s approval and understanding that due to conditions such as geographic location and home situation the student would not be successful with the a-g course.)

After the Intake Meeting, the enrollment documents will be mailed to IEM by the Intake ES, and the student will become activated once they are received.

Copies of:

- the Student Agreement (will also be viewable in FRED)

- the Intake Meeting Information Sheet

- the Kaleidoscope Learning Styles Profile

- the unofficial transcript from the previous school

- a writing sample (not writing prompt)

will be put into a student file and mailed to the ES by the intake clerk once they receive notification of ES assignment.. (If the student file is not received by the ES, they may email cwcsintake@connectingwaters.org.) The assigned ES will receive an e-mail notifying them about the student assignment. The assigned ES must call the family within 24 hours once the e-mail is sent, and will meet with the family within 7-10 school days after receiving the e-mail notification. If a student drops from the school shortly after intake, the ES must collect the materials given to the student at intake for use by another student.
