Physical Science is the study of the principles, theories, and assumptions that guide our understanding of the world and universe. Courses that include concepts from Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy, and/or Earth Science can be used to complete the Physical Science Requirement. In Life Science, students will learn about the myriad of life forms that inhabit our world and the many variables that affect life. Courses that include concepts from Biology, Animal Science, Life Science and/or Environmental Science, can be used to complete the Life Science Requirement. (A "General Science" Course can not be accepted as either a Life Science or a Physical Science.)
For a complete listing of all of the science courses on our course list, with an indication of whether they meet the Physical Science or Life Science Requirements, link to Science Courses.
Important Information about a-g Lab Science Courses - this applies only to a-g Biology, a-g Chemistry, a-g Physics, and a-g Anatomy/Physiology (a-g Earth Science, a-g Life Science, and a-g Physical Science are a-g elective courses NOT "lab science" courses):
We were informed during 2006-07 school year by the University of California that the lab portion of our a-g lab science courses can not be completed in a home environment nor can lab kits sufficiently provide students with the lab experience that UC is expecting from our students. Please make sure your families are informed that a-g Biology, a-g Chemistry, a-g Physics and a-g Anatomy/Physiology must have an on site type/formal lab component. Options include taking the course at community college, taking supplemental labs at our Modesto Learning Center offered by Lecia Leige, or taking the lab portion from Dan Wyrick, a vendor, in Lodi. Our online vendor, www.uccp.org , may be a possibility although we would have to provide our students with an on site lab to complete the course.
