High School Science
Requirement
The science
graduation requirement for IEM Charter School graduates is 10 units of a Physical
Science course and 10 units of a Life Science course, following California Ed
code graduation course requirements [Ed Code 51225.3 (a)(1)(c)]. Additional
science credits over and above these may be counted as units towards the
Special Interests elective course requirements.
Physical Science
is the study of the principles, theories, and assumptions that guide our
understanding of the world and universe. Courses that
include concepts from Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy, and/or Earth
Science can be used to complete the Physical Science Requirement.
In Life Science,
students will learn about the myriad of life forms that inhabit our world and
the many variables that affect life. Courses that include concepts from Biology,
Animal Science, Life Science and/or Environmental Science, can be used to
complete the Life Science Requirement.
A "General
Science" or “Integrated Science” Course can not be accepted as either a
Life Science or a Physical Science for graduation requirements in science,
but can be counted as additional science units in the Special Interests area.
For a complete
listing of all of the science courses on our course list, with an indication of
whether they meet the Physical Science or Life Science Requirements, see the
chart below:
