Professional
Growth Hours Clarification:
The responsibility to monitor
compliance of teacher’s professional growth has been taken from the CCTC by SB1209 and given to the local school/district
of your employment. You no longer have to supply any professional growth
information to CCTC at all, as they are no longer the monitoring agency for
your professional growth. This does not mean there is no professional
growth requirement for you as teachers! We as a school must now monitor and
track your PG. We will continue to
track your hours and award PG certificates with your PG hours listed at the end
of each year as our means to meet our school responsibility.
Policy
ESs will need to complete 36 hours of
professional growth for SS/OG this school year.
Some training meetings are required for all ESs; some are choice
sessions. Your ES Advisor is your professional growth advisor and can answer
your questions. Specific in-services, WASC required meetings, and/or other
professional training may be required during the school year. Additionally, an
individual Professional growth assignment may be given to an ES by their ES
Advisor when deemed appropriate and necessary. ESs who do not attend and
complete these required trainings without cause will be subject to Disciplinary
Action.
ES Responsibilities for
Professional Growth:
The ES develops their specific PG goals, chooses
activities within those goals, and then reports activities on their goals using
the school database—ES Webfiles/ES Detail Goal page. The ES Advisors have the
opportunity to examine and approve their assigned ESs goals in Webfiles. The ES
is responsible to communicate at least twice a year with their ES Advisor on
their professional growth goals and plan. The goals are included as a part of
the yearly ES Evaluation.
Required Meetings:
·
All ES
Meeting: 7 hours
·
Local ES
Group Meetings led by your AF: 3 hours each for 7 meetings; 4 hours for the
March ES Group Meeting= 25 total hours
·
There are 32
hours of required ES Professional growth training sessions. The remaining 4 hours
should match your professional goals for this school year.
Choices for additional PG hours:
·
Initial ES Training phases
·
VPSS: VPSS hours for those who are not
NCLB certified in a core subject area and have indicated their plan to
participate in VPSS on their NCLB plan will count towards your PG hours.
·
Advisor led Webex trainings on various
topics of interest.
· Curriculum
Trainings: Live Curriculum trainings will be announced throughout the year over
Webex in various subjects.
· Guidance
Trainings: Live Guidance trainings will be announced throughout the year over
Webex in various topics.
· Assessment
Trainings: Live Assessment trainings will be announced throughout the year over
Webex in various subjects.
· CSET Exam
preparation: If you plan to take a CSET
exam for NCLB certification purposes, 8 hours of your prep time can be used
towards PG
· Outside
Conferences: If you plan to attend an educational conference and wish to have
those hours applied to your professional growth, email your advisor for
approval for the hours prior to your attendance at the session. (The school
will not pay for these conferences.)
·
Additional
opportunities may be announced, as they are available.
These Choices DO NOT qualify for
additional PG hours:
·
Watching a recorded Webex training
individually.
·
Reading a book and reporting on it.
·
The time at a conference spent checking
out booths, lunch, passing breaks, etc.
·
Doing research on a topic of your choice
by yourself.
·
Any class taken at a college or
university.
·
Individual trainings may be required by
your ES Advisor, but they may not count towards your PG hours. (This includes
make up meetings with an advisor.)
Procedure:
·
Attendance is
expected at all required ES meetings.
Hours are automatically tracked from the sign-in sheet you sign at the
meeting. If you leave early, you will
need to make up for what you missed with your advisor.
·
For school
provided optional PG opportunities, respond to the directions given to sign-up
for the Webex training on the announcement listserve. There is a limit of 14 participants per any 1
training session, therefore respond early and do not attend unless you receive
a confirmation that you are “enrolled”.
·
For outside
PG opportunities, email your Advisor to discuss how this meets your goals
listed in Webfiles, and the number of hours you can receive.
·
Outside
opportunities may not take the place of school required hours.
But, school required hours may "count" towards meeting your ES Goals,
so do indicate that in your ES goals section of Webfiles.
Professional Growth Certificates:
Professional Growth certificates will be
tracked by the school and a certificate is available for each ES to print that
will include their hours at the end of each school year. After the next school
year starts in the database, the prior year’s certificate will no longer be
available.
