REVISED 9/2009

CWCS Suggested Curriculum per Grade Level

All curriculum items included on our grade level suggestions are California state-adopted programs.  State-adopted programs are materials that have been reviewed and approved by the Department of Education for adequately meeting grade level content standards.  Although state-adopted programs are designed for classroom use, and will have components that will not be useful for the home-study, many of the materials can be successfully used by home-school families.   Just as a classroom teacher must pick and chose pieces and modify to meet the needs of classroom students, many parents will do the same when tailoring the curriculum to meet the needs of their student at home.

Included on the suggested links will be items from state-adopted programs that will meet basic instruction on grade level standards, as well as be most doable in the home setting.  Please note that all state-adopted programs will offer teacher’s editions which can be quite expensive.  These teacher editions include student instruction and instructional modeling in addition to answers to student work, and therefore cost more than an answer key.

In general, state-adopted curriculum is textbook-based, and will work best for families that desire to use materials that would be used in their neighborhood traditional school.
