How to Learn More about K to the 8th Power

The links below will allow you to take Sample Lessons, take the Technology Literacy Assessment Part 1, Browse All the Lessons, view sample lesson resources, and download lesson guides. NOTE: Configure your web browser to allow pop-up windows from www.kto8.com or many of the links will not open.

1)      Sample Lessons: Go to http://www.kto8.com/se/ and select one of the “Sample Lesson” tabs on the left of the page. There is one sample lesson for each grade level K though 8. Clicking the lesson picture will begin the lesson. Clicking the Lesson Plan link will open a PDF lesson plan for that lesson. NOTE: If you click the lesson picture and nothing happens or the lesson tries to load but doesn’t, it is because your browser had a pop-up ad blocker preventing the lesson from loading. You must configure your browser to allow pop-ups from www.kto8.com.

Recommendation: After you have had an opportunity to preview the lessons, let your students click on some of the sample lessons in the lab or classroom and see how they like them.

2)      Technology Literacy Assessment Part 1: Based on individual student results, this four part assessment will prescribe lessons to address student deficiencies.

Go to: http://www.kto8.com/Lessons/Assessment/6/1_PublicDemo/Assessment.htm

Recommendation: After you have had an opportunity to take Part 1 let some of your 6th, 7th, and 8th graders take the quiz to test their technology literacy. They will receive a printable certificate at the end of the quiz.

3)      Browse All Lessons: Go to http://www.kto8.com/se/ and select the “Browse All Lessons” tab on the left of the page. This will open a new browser window and allow you to scroll through all of the lessons. You will see a Lesson Summary that gives a brief description of the lesson’s academic objective and a Technology Summary that briefly describes the technology skills taught in the lesson. When the lesson browser first opens you will be seeing All 8th Grade Lessons. You can select a different grade to view by clicking the corresponding grade number at the top of the page. You can select a specific content category by clicking on Reading, Writing, Math, or Technology. You will notice that some lessons have colored icons labeled “Lesson Resources”, “A”, and “B”. Clicking Lesson Resources will open a window that contains links to the following PDF documents: Lesson Plan, Lesson Rubric, Activity Instructions, Activity Data, and Activity Example. Clicking one of the colored “A” or “B” icons will load the lesson. “A” lessons are for native English speakers. “B” lessons are differentiated for ESL/ELL students.

Recommendation: Open the Lesson Resources window and review all of the supporting documents provided with the lesson.

4)      Download Lesson Guides: Go to http://www.kto8.com/se/ and select “Downloads”. You will be able to download individual guides for K through 8 or you can download the Overview of All Grades. Individual grade lesson guide file size is about 300K (9 or 10 pages). The Overview of All Grades is about 2.7MB (50 pages) so it may take a few minutes depending on your connection speed.

Recommendation: Print the individual overviews for each grade and circulate them among your teachers. Ask them to indicate the lessons that apply to their classroom objectives.
