Dear Education
Specialist:
We are pleased to continue to
provide Connecting Waters students with excellent tutoring and portfolio
management options. Please note that Home
Tutoring Plus will NOT be offering portfolio reviews
at the end of this semester; the portfolio management options need to start as
close to the beginning of the semester as possible. This will insure that the
students receive maximum benefit and avoid end-of-semester confusion. No price
adjustment will be made for portfolio management requests received after the
beginning of the semester.

Tutoring Guidelines
The following guidelines will
help us to provide prompt and effective service. Before we speak with the
students’ parents, it’s helpful if you’ve spoken with them and agreed upon the
subjects to be tutored, the type of tutoring (online or in-home), and the
number of tutoring hours that you want. To learn more about online tutoring,
please visit http://www.charterschoolresource.com/ourtutoring.htm.
We recommend at least one
hour per week per subject. We will do two subjects in an hour per week, but if
the student is remedial it spreads the tutoring time quite thin. We prefer to
concentrate on one subject so the student sees improvement as quickly as
possible.
Once you’ve agreed upon the subjects and
number of hours, we need to speak with the parents. Use our handy tutoring request
form at http://www.charterschoolresource.com/request.php
to give us the necessary information to
efficiently provide tutoring for your students. Alternatively, email or call us
to let us know that you’ve submitted paperwork for a particular student. If not
using our on-line form, be sure to give us this information:
·
Parent’s name
& phone number
·
Student’s name,
age, subject and grade level
·
For on-line
tutoring, include parent and student email addresses
·
Total number of
hours. Unless you tell us otherwise, we will assume you want one hour per week
for tutoring. We will also assume that it’s all right for the student and tutor
to determine the number of on-line sessions per week, totaling approximately
one hour.
We will email you once the
tutoring is arranged and will give you the tutor’s contact information.
You can send us an email: janice@charterschoolresource.com
with any questions about the subject or rate, or to provide the information as
noted above. Our name, address and phone numbers are below.
Portfolio Management Details
I. Basic Portfolio Management, $100.
1)
Parent, student,
and ES will develop a syllabus and timeline detailing what needs to be done by
when. They will also discuss whether a student is doing a final project or
taking a final exam, and specific steps towards completing the final
project/exam will be placed on the timeline. They will provide HQT with syllabus,
timeline, and final project/exam information.
2)
The student is
responsible for monthly delivery of copies of corrected and graded work copies to the HQT according to
schedule. The HQT will provide a grade for work provided and any suggestions
for upgrading. If the student doesn’t do this, the HQT will contact the
student, parent, and/or ES as the HQT deems is appropriate. Parent or ES
provides guidance to the student as needed.
3)
If the student
wants copies mailed back, student needs to provide HQT with an appropriately
stamped envelope. Email submissions will have email returns; fax returns are
possible but can’t be guaranteed.
4)
Students may
upgrade and resubmit work the next month.
5)
A semester grade
will be given based upon student achievement in relation to the previously
developed syllabus and timeline. A written portfolio review will not be
given.
II. Plus Portfolio
Management, $160. Maximum HQT time 4 hours.
1)
Initial phone
consultation with the HQT, ideally at the beginning of the semester, to develop
or agree upon a syllabus and a timeline for the student to meet the semester’s
requirements, including a final project or exam. The HQT will email the
timeline to student, ES, and parent. The HQT will develop a contact schedule
with the student for biweekly contact and monthly work submission, in order to
document accomplished work and provide minimal distance tutoring.
2)
The student is
responsible for calling the tutor and monthly delivery of corrected and graded
work copies to the HQT according to
schedule. The HQT will provide a grade for work provided and any suggestions
for upgrading. If the student doesn’t do this, the HQT will use support time to
contact the student, parent, and/or ES as the HQT deems is appropriate. If the
student has questions or needs guidance, the HQT can provide minimal tutoring.
III. A-G Plus Portfolio Management $200. Maximum HQT
time 5 hours.
1)
Initial phone
consultation with the HQT, ideally at the beginning of the semester, to agree
upon a timeline for the student to meet the semester’s requirements, including
a final project or exam. The HQT will email the timeline to student, ES, and parent.
2)
HQT and student
will agree upon a “default” weekly access schedule; if the student doesn’t
contact the tutor for assistance during the prior week, the student is responsible for calling the tutor
at their regularly scheduled time. The student is responsible for mid- and
end-of-semester delivery of corrected and graded work copies to the HQT according to schedule. The HQT will provide a
grade for work provided and any suggestions for upgrading (mid-semester only).
If the student doesn’t do this, the HQT will use support time to contact the
student, parent, and/or ES as the HQT deems is appropriate. If the student has
questions or needs guidance, the HQT can provide minimal tutoring.
3)
If the student
wants copies mailed back, student needs to provide HQT with an appropriately
stamped envelope. Email submissions will have email returns; fax returns are
possible but can’t be guaranteed.
4)
Students may
upgrade and resubmit mid-semester work at the end of the semester.
5)
The HQT will
remind student and ES that at least major assessments (i.e., unit tests, final exams) shall be
proctored by a qualified professional, (e.g., a school teacher, administrator,
counselor, or paraprofessional who fulfills an instructional role, librarian,
university personnel, or test center administrator). Proctoring exams is not
included in this rate, but it is an additional service that Home Tutoring Plus
Inc can provide in most locations if requested in advance.
6)
A semester grade
will be given based upon student achievement in relation to the A-G
requirements, including weekly calls with the HQT.
