IEM Curriculum Policy

Policy

According to the school charter, IEM school students must use curriculum that will enable the students to meet the California state standards framework.  The curriculum does not need to be state aligned in itself, but the standards must all be covered with the parent/ES chosen educational plan in preparation for the annual state mandated assessments.

Intervention definition for students

Students whose test results show them to be below grade level on the Scantron Edperformance assessment, at “basic” or below on the STAR/CST assessments, and/or who receive a “fail” on either of the CAHSEE test sections may be in need of intervention help from the ES.

Intervention Suggestions

The following is a list of intervention helps that may be useful in working with your students:

  1. Additional Scantron Ed performance tests can be taken at any time during the year to determine student expectation of performance on the upcoming assessments.  Standards specific lessons are available for printing from the website after the test to relearn the standards that have not been mastered.
  2. Order Starline Press units for English, math, science and/or social studies for identified areas of weakness, as they come in small booklets for each subject area and grade level, and material to cover only the needed standards can be ordered.
  3. Writing prompts & rubrics are available on the website to be given to every family to prepare for the 4th and 7th grade writing tests and the CAHSEE.
  4. The curriculum area of the website has other resources that may be helpful for your students in their area of weakness (links to websites, other curriculum suggestions, specific intervention suggestions)

Procedure

ESs will review each of their student’s STAR/CAHSEE scores and/or Scantron edperformance online assessment results prior to the first learning record meeting each school year.

At the first LR meeting, the assessment scores and their meaning will be discussed with the parent and interventions as appropriate will be presented for the subject areas where they are needed.

ESs will order or provide any requested intervention tools to the family ASAP.
