REVISED 6/2009

How to Print in FRED using a PDF Printer

1) Use a pdf software that you have purchased or download a free PDF Printer (CutePdf, Bullzip, PDFCreator, etc.)

2) Change your default printer before opening FRED. Go to your Control Panel (for PCs, Start/Control Panel- this picture below is as it is seen from the “Category view” rather than the “Classic view”.

3) Click on “Printers and other Hardware”

4) Click on “View Installed Printers or Fax Printers”

5) Highlight your PDF Printer and click on “File”, Choose “Set as Default Printer”.

6) You should now see your default printer marked with a checkmark.

7) After logging into FRED, when you want to print a page, click “file/print”, or the printer icon in FRED. Make sure that “Current Record” is visible in “Print” dropdown field. Your pdf default printer should be in the printer “name” field. Click OK.

8) The next window will ask you where you want to save the file. Most computers default to save in the documents folder, but you may choose whatever folder you’d like by clicking on the “Save in” drop down.  Save it to your desktop or another file of your choice. This is where you will find your printed pdf documents.

9) Once saved, you can attach a RS, RC, LR, SA pg. 1, transcript, Scantron test result, etc., to an email and further economize on paper and ink!

10) You can leave your pdf printer as your default printer at all times if you’d like. When you want to print something on your regular printer (when not in FRED), you can just choose “print” as you normally do, and when the print window comes up, you can just choose the printer that you’d like from the dropdown, see yellow outline above. If you don’t want to leave it as your default, you’ll need to remember to do steps 2-6 before opening FRED each time you plan on printing from FRED.

Note, Primo pdf can sometimes come up with the error message "need .NET Framework 2.0", here's their response and the needed download.
