Installing PC FRED

New ESs, BEFORE STARTING, MAKE SURE THAT YOU'VE SUBMITTED A PERSONAL PASSWORD TO YOUR ADVISOR AS DIRECTED.

  1. Install Citrix client for windows
    1. Go to the Citrix Download Instruction on the IEM Support site. Complete the instructions there and return here to configure with the following instructions.
  2. Setting up Citrix Client(simple version)
    1. Right-click on this link filemaker.ica
    2. select "Save Target As" or "Save Link As"
    3. In the next dialog box, navigate to you desktop and save the file there
    4. Double click the file to connect( or that doesn't work, right-click and select Open With "Citrix Remote Application Runtime")
    5. Insert your username and password
    6. Hit OK
    7. Proceed to the FileMaker Quick Start Screen instructions below
  3. Setting up Citrix Client (detailed version)
    1. open “Citrix Program Neighborhood”
    2. double click on "Custom ICA Connections"
    3. double click on "Add ICA Connection"
    4. select "Wide Area Network" and click "NEXT" (dial up users may want to choose dial up setting to allow for longer log on time and to make it so the computer automatically dials up whenever Citrix is opened)
    5. enter "IEM" as the description
    6. select tcp/ip+http as the protocol
    7. make sure "Published Application" is chosen, and not "Server"
    8. click on the words "Server Location" and a window will open
    9. uncheck the "Use Default" button
    10. click on “Add” and enter the following server address and port
      • “citrix1.ieminc.org”  (in the first field)
      • “8080”  (in the port field to the right)
      • click “OK”
    11. click on “Add” and enter the following server address and port
      • “citrix2.ieminc.org”  (in the first field)
      • “8080”  (in the port field to the right)
      • click “OK”
    12. click on “Add” and enter the following server address and port
      • “citrix3.ieminc.org”  (in the first field)
      • “8080”  (in the port field to the right)
      • click “OK”
    13. click on “Add” and enter the following server address and port
      • “citrix5.ieminc.org”  (in the first field)
      • “8080”  (in the port field to the right)
      • click “OK”
    14. Then click “OK” again
    15. Then click  on Firewalls ...
      • In the firewall settings window, check the checkbox called "Use alternate address for firewall connection"
      • Click OK
      • Click OK again
    16. You now return to the page with the IEM description and you will select the ARROW just above the words "Server Location" and wait for it to return an item. (It may take a while and you MUST BE ONLINE.  If you get an error message, try the arrow again after you verified your connection).
    17. The returned item in the drop down list should be “File Maker”.   Select this and click “NEXT”
    18. Just click “NEXT” on the window size page
    19. Just click “NEXT” on the encryption level page
    20. First uncheck the box "Use local user name and password" and check the "save password" box, then enter your user name and password submitted to IT.
    21. enter “IEMINC” as the domain and click “NEXT”
    22. On the display page, uncheck the "Use Default" box, click on the drop down arrow and select High Color(16 bit). Click NEXT.
    23. Then click “FINISH”

You will now see a new ICON in the folder named “IEM”.  Close Citrix and restart your computer. Make sure you are connected, and reopen Citrix,

    1. click on "ICA" IEM icon. (It may take a while.)
    2. The first thing you will see is the FileMaker Quick Start screen.
    3. Click “Open Database”, then click “Browse Files…”
    4. When the “Open File” dialog appears, select Remote in the bottom right corner.
    5. In the Open Remote File dialog next select data1 (192.168.0.130), then a list of files will appear on the right. Select the top file, " _Menu" and hit the open button on the lower right.
    6. For most people the file should open right up. For the few that it does not, enter your user name and Password. If you do not know what these are are contact IT.
