REVISED 87/2009

CWCS Technology Plan

AB 307 states: "3f. List of goals and an implementation plan that describe how the district will address the appropriate and ethical use of information technology in the classroom, so that students can distinguish lawful from unlawful uses of copyrighted works including the following topics: the concept and purpose of both copyright and fair use; distinguishing lawful from unlawful downloading and peer-to-peer file sharing; and avoiding plagiarism."

The CWCS Tech Plan includes the following objective: "All Students and staff will learn about information literacy, copyright, and the appropriate and ethical use of information technology including: piracy and plagiarism, inappropriate content, and social networking." Teachers and parents will go over the school’s Internet/Computer System Acceptable Use Regulations with the parent and students using the internet and request their signatures. ESes will teach their students about information literacy, copyright and the appropriate and ethical use of information technology.

(This is phase one for completng this objective. We are only requiring it this year for those families that use a school owned computer and/or internet access.)
ESes must inform their parents who use a school owned computer and/or internet access about AB307 requirements, have them sign the school's new Acceptable Use form (available in FRED and on the forms page) and guide them in the selection of the appropriate resources from the below list to teach their student(s) before the completion of the 2009/2010 school year. Not all links need to be chosen, but all topics must be covered.  How in depth the course of study is might be based on parent choice as long as all of the basic topics are covered. ESes must include the learning in the students learning records under "Life Skills" using the words "Technology Plan:". High School students may, but do not have to receive credits, for this Technology training. Credits can be included in computer skills courses or if already completed, as a life skills elective. The ES should collect print outs of completed activities or written statements of the new learning just as with other subject.
