Frequently asked Questions(FAQs) - Citrix
Q. I keep losing my connection to citrix/Filemaker
A. Our online server uses the ICA protocol to serve applications via the web. Tcp port 1494 is used to communicate between the client and server. This port must be open on your firewall/proxy in order to use our applications.
In order to connect to our server communication on certain ports is required. The ActiveX form of the ICA client appears to need communicate on both ports 1604 (UDP) and 1494 (TCP - for ICA protocol).
These ports must be opened on the firewall to communicate between citrix server and citrix client.
To check if your firewall is allowing communication on port 1494, you can open a DOS window(Run / command) and type in "telnet 68.164.240.92 1494". This sends a request to communicate with a server over port 1494. The command will cause a new window to be opened on your machine. If the connection can be established, you will see the response "ICA", otherwise you will get a message "Connection failed" or similar.
If the port is not open on your firewall, you will
have to request your IS support staff to enable your computer to communicate
over this port
in the
firewall.
Q. When I am logging onto Citrix I get interupted and then when I try to finish I am told I am already in and I don't have access. What is wrong?
When a user gets knocked off line through a service interruption of some type or an improper disconnect, Citrix thinks that the person is connected even though they are not. Citrix is configured to reset any disconnected session after 15 minutes. It logs off any sessions that is idle after two hours. It may be that in some cases a disconnected session is viewed as a idle session. In any case any sessions should be reset in two hours. And you should be able to get back in. If this happens during the business day you can call the office(1-800-979-4436) and ask for help with resetting a Citrix session.
Q I get this error "Program Neighborhood Agent can not update the configuration information.
Server running the Web Interface may not be available or its URL may be indorrect. Also, the configuration file may contain errors or its location may be incorrect.", "Citrix Client Configuration Refresh Error"
For this question, I found that I had made a mistake in the installation instructions on our website for installing Citrix- http://www.ieminc.org/handbook/computerrel/webfiles/pccitrix.htm. The J section should read,
j. You will see Metaframe Presentation Server with 3 subheadings, 1)Web Client, 2)Program Neighborhood agent, 3)Program Neighborhood. Leave the 1st and 3rd option as they are. Next to the 1st and 2nd option, Web Client and Program Neighborhood Agent, select the last option of the drop-down list, "X Entire feature will be unavailable".
In other words, the Web Client and Program Neighbor Agent should not be installed.
If you have already installed it, you can download the installer and run it, and select modify when it opens. You will see again

Continue through he installer as usual and it should remove the Web Client and Program Neighbor Agent.
Q. I can’t print from Citrix. HELP! I'm trying to print out forms, but I get a window saying that "first you must install a printer." Yet my printer is installed, turned on, properly hooked up, and prints documents from other files and programs -- just not out of Citrix. Can you help me fix this?
A. First restart your computer completely and log back in. This sometimes works. If not then, Check to make sure that your preferred printer is selected as your default printer. Here are the directions to do that for Windows XP.
The default printer is used when you click Print on the File menu of many
A check mark appears next to the printer icon in Printers and Faxes.
Now restart and log back into Citrix, you should have a printer now.
Q. I can’t print from Citrix. HELP!
A. Here is my suggestion to try for those having intractable mysterious printing
problems.
For a PC: Download and install PrimoPDF (http://www.primopdf.com/ ).
Set it as your default printer. It will then show up as a printer in the printer
settings. “Print” each document as a PDF file. Then open the
pdf documents and print them by manually selecting the printer you wish the
output to go to. This has the added advantage of creating files that are
portable, i.e. can be emailed as a pdf file instead of being printed. And
they can be saved on your computer for future reference.
For a MAC: Every time a print dialog comes up on a Mac, there is an option to Save As PDF. Just select that option. Then open the pdf documents and print them by manually selecting the printer you wish the output to go to. This has the added advantage of creating files that are portable, i.e. can be emailed as a pdf file instead of being printed. And they can be saved on your computer for future reference.
