Revised 8/2008
Mid-Semester Transfers
When a student enrolls in our school in the middle of a semester, and the previous school has not assigned grades with partial credits (not typically done), the ES must have the parent/student immediately obtain a copy of the transcript from the previous school.
If the previous school has assigned “incompletes”, or has assigned passing grades with “0” credits, or has a part on the transcript that denotes “work in progress”, the ES can have the student continue in the same course, but in order to complete the semester and receive full credit, they must first take and pass the corresponding HQT Department Course mid-term. Credit can only be given for courses that are completed in our school. If a student did “Dance” in their previous school, but did not complete the course by continuing in that subject in our school, we can not assign partial credit for the previous school experience.
The student must have a transcript with the above information. If they don’t, or if the grades assigned from the previous school were “F’s”, then we can’t assign full credit for the full semester, and can only assign credit based on the work produced while enrolled in our school.
In the unusual circumstance that a student enrolls in our school after our first semester ended, and before their previous school had finished their first semester… (This would only occur during the first two weeks of January)…The transcript would need to be obtained to meet the above criteria, and then the ES should record any learning in the learning record with a note that it was a course that is being completed from the first semester at ____ school. Once the courses are completed, the ES will submit a report card for the first semester with the grades based on their evaluation of work completed coupled with the previous school’s evaluation (if available).
In this instance, a portfolio for the first semester would not be necessary as the portfolios are required based on dates of enrollment.
