Additional Education Specialist Services (AESS)
Definition
“AESS” is one of the many educational choices that parents/ESs can
choose from to put together an individual educational program using available instructional
funding. Choosing the AESS option increases the involvement of the ES in a
student's education, over and above the basic ES Job, by contract with the
parent/student. AESS payment to an ES is separate from the regular ES pay.
Requirements
- Each ES
must be willing to service up to 5 AESS students if asked to do so by
their families.
- The AESS
contract must be completed each year, even if the student was AESS the
previous year and no changes are being made.
- The
contract can be started or stopped at any time.
- An AESS
contract cannot be chosen if there is not enough instructional funding
available for the Parent/ES to make that choice.
- An AESS
contract should not be chosen if the student has greater need for other
educational services.
- AESS
contracts are specific to one ES and one parent for one student. If an
AESS student transfers to a new ES, a new contract must be completed in
order for the ES to be properly paid.
- ESs who work with their own children as students in the
charter school, cannot complete an AESS contract for them, as that could
be a conflict of interest.
- Not
having an AESS contract with a student does not release an ES from
providing the best possible education for each of their students to the
best of their ability (See ES Job Description for specific duties).
