HQT Guide
This is a guide to use in determining what HQT options best fit each
scenario. Remember to complete it for each course/growth area and refer
to the Learning
Record documentation for how to document HQT information in LR.
For each
-English/Language Arts,
-Mathematics- including
reading interventions and CAHSEE Math classes
-Science: Biological
Sciences, Chemistry, Geosciences, Physics
-Social Sciences: US and
World History, Government, Economics, Geography
-Foreign languages(specific-French, English, German, etc)
-Drama/Theater (English
credential)
-Visual Arts
-Music
-Dance (Physical
Education credential).

Parent denied on these courses must be approved by the Executive director.
For each a-g course, ask yourself these questions:

Are you HQT in the subject?
If “Yes”, you are done!
( If this is
a science course other than Earth Science, please sign student up for the appropriate lab. The lab is a
requirement for a-g credit. Note that the lab alone does not meet the HQT requirement.)

If you are not HQT in the subject, see links below and use chart as sample
to work out a plan for each of your students.

Reminder: tell the parent and student that all a-g classes require a
proctored final. This is in addition to the HQT coverage.
Once HQT is set up for these a-g courses, see below.
Follow these steps for every student with an HQT:
Step 1:
Initiate contact with the HQT at the beginning of the semester to be sure they
have:
A. Your
correct e-mail address
B. Your
correct work telephone number
C. Students
current telephone number where student can be reached if necessary.
Step 2:
Read and print for reference the class syllabus.
Step 3:
Grading of daily work assignments:
A. Done by
parent. ES should check at LR meetings for progress and evaluation.
B. If
student is AESS, then this is the ES's
responsibility
Step 4:
Sign off and date class assignment sheet on syllabus at each learning record
meeting and keep for records.
Step 5:
Create and send quarterly progress report in FRED on given dates
Step 6:
Contact HQT:
A. if student is dropping the course
B. if student appears to be struggling and/or having any
difficulties
C. if you have any concerns in regards to student's
performance/learning
