Do you have suggestions for how we can fund all of the HQT/Tutoring requirements? The HQT on-line classes don’t work for everyone, and tutoring for English, Math, Science, and Social Studies is very costly. The new HQT Access will be helpful. Other options are being discussed. This has been forwarded to administration for consideration.
Another suggestion was that the HQT be asked to post a generic LR for their course each month (as Debbie Kutz did last year) to add consistency and professionalism to the learning records. This would also enable ES’s to have a firm grasp of what has been covered and assigned each month, regardless of the changes or adjustments to the syllabus which are often necessary for the instructor. ESes can obtain information from the Syllabus, work samples that they verify on progress report to HQT, and Nicenet.
We understand that
the school just started barcoding materials at the Learning Center this year.
ESs have started receiving missing item lists for families (which is good),
but the issue is they have come sometimes several months after a family has
dropped. It is extremely awkward for an ES to contact a family that late in
the year. We think there is a new missing link. Maybe the Learning Center can
send out an email to the ESs each time a family checks out materials so they
can collect them when they drop. Or perhaps a new tab could be built into Webfiles
(Kim Pyle’s great idea!) where the materials are listed so an ES can check that
when a family drops. This was an oversight. The missing materials notices
from Surpass started about 3 weeks ago so this is why some are a few months
overdue. They are now current. If they are not current, please let Sherri Nelson
know. The webfiles tab will be researched, but surpass and filemaker are two
different platforms so it may not be possible. The emails to ESes at this point
are up to date and should work out fine. If the ESes feel awkward about retrieving
the materials if the student dropped a while ago, they can contact their advisor
for help as they always do.
For the ELA portion of the meeting...could phonics/remedial reading lessons
be given to students via Elluminate...perhaps 3/week ? Have Total Reading and
SRA been considered ? Should reading levels be assessed a intake or the initial
meeting w/ a curriculum based test...most take only 5-10 minutes. Scantron
assesses the reading level, other information has been forwarded to Terry Souza
for consideration.
What exactly is required for a writing sample in kindergarten portfolio? Is it ok to have letters or strokes only if student is not writing yet (esp. for benchmark/prompt #1)? The student would demonstrate their current level of writing skills. This is a guide.
Academic Probation comments and suggestions. The Academic Probation program will be reviewed in January. We will have data at that time to review whether CWCS seems to be helping students who are credit deficient, or if the students would be better off enrolled in a different type of program. All suggestions and comments regarding these types of situations were forwarded to administration for review.
