JUNIORS – Class of 2006
information
If you are a college-bound
student, please make sure to take the PSAT during your Junior year. You could qualify for the NMSQT
scholarship program which is only available to juniors who score well on the
PSAT.
The New
PSAT/NMSQT
The new PSAT/NMSQT will be
administered for the first time in October 2004. The changes to the PSAT/NMSQT
will parallel many of the changes to the SAT. Like the SAT, the changes to the
PSAT/NMSQT will be based on the principle that the test should more closely
align with high school curricula and college skills.
To sign up for the PSAT:
Contact Waterford High
School Counselor Laura Garcia to sign up and pay your fee. Waterford will be offering the exam on
Saturday October 16, 2004.
OR, you can contact your local High School’s Career
Center to inquire, The school may
have room for you on one of their test dates either Wednesday October 13, 2004
or Saturday October 16, 2004.
Please contact the high school by September 30,
2004 and make sure to request a PSAT practice test booklet when signing up to
take the test. CWCS School Code: 053706
To highlight the
importance of verbal skills, the new SAT, which students from the class of 2006
will first take in March 2005, will add more reading passages and will stress
writing. It will include a standardized writing test that a growing number of
colleges are already requiring for admission.

FRESHMAN AND
SOPHOMORES
If you are a college-bound
student, please try to take the PSAT and/or the PLAN during your Sophomore
year.
What is the PLAN Test?
PLAN® helps tenth
graders build a solid foundation for future academic and career success and
provides information needed to address school districts' high-priority issues.
It is a comprehensive guidance resource that helps students measure their
current academic development, explore career/training options, and make plans
for the remaining years of high school and post-graduation years. As a "pre-ACT" test, PLAN is a
powerful predictor of success on the ACT Assessment.
To sign up for the PLAN:
Contact your local High
School’s Career Center to inquire,
The school may have room for you during their test date which is
typically in November. Make sure to
contact the school by September 30, 2004 and ask for a practice test booklet
when signing up.
CWCS School Code:
053706
Waterford HS is not
offering the PLAN test this year.
