How to Tell When a Change in Education is Needed
There are times when nothing seems to work. You‘ve tried everything, from teacher conferences, to getting directly involved. As the difficulties mount, your child‘s attitude may grow progressively worse. Perhaps a change of school environment is needed. Here are some signs to look for:
- Your child continually complains of being bored (and his grades are declining)
- Your child continually complains of the schoolwork being either too easy or too hard
- Your child is being bullied or harassed at school.
- Your child is falling behind in schoolwork because his learning style is different.
- Rapport with the teacher and/or administrators is difficult to achieve.
- The standards at your child‘s school have diminished.
And there could be other signs. The basic truth you want to know is this: does my child have the opportunity to thrive in this school environment? This environment includes the school being totally open to your involvement as a parent. If you conclude that a new environment would be more beneficial, look into the charter schools in your area. Quite often they will be Parent-Driven, and will offer the environment your child needs. |
