The IEM Board is dedicated to supporting IEM’s vision to be a change agent in public education. The Board members are all strong advocates of parents’ choice in education as well as individual learning plans for students. Each Board member comes to IEM with unique talents and experience to help support the vision. |

Larry Mandelberg
Chairman
|
With over 30 years experience as CEO and consultant, Larry Mandelberg has been called both an organizational futurist and non-recovering serial entrepreneur. He has launched 4 start-ups, led a merger, and performed a successful turnaround. Mandelberg has a monthly column in the Sacramento Business Journal called Eyes on Business where he has published over 40 articles.
Larry is a student of organizational lifecycles and has developed a system to help business owners create sustainable growth. He has been a guest on television and radio programs talking about business and entrepreneurship. In his consulting practice, Growth by Design, Larry provides strategic planning, leadership development, executive coaching, and ethics training to mid-sized organizations and their Boards in a broad range of industries from television to scientific research.
In addition to his roles as a consultant and chairman for IEM, Larry also provides communication training for Cooperative Personnel Services, teaches the team building class for the Sacramento Entrepreneurship Academy, and is completing is MBA at the new Drexel University campus in Sacramento. He has been married to his wife Nancy for 28 years and their children are of the 4 legged furry family that bark. Larry has been a member of the IEM board since July 2001, and Chairman since March 2003. |

Randy Gaschler
Treasurer

Randy is president of Innovative Education Management and is responsible for the overall management of the company, which has managed 9 successful California charters. Randy is a UCLA graduate in economics and has a California Teacher’s Credential. He has been in education for the past 13 years both as a teacher and administrator. He founded one of the first successful charters in California, Horizon Instructional Systems.
Randy has served as a member of the Board of Directors for the California Network of Educational Charters for the last 6 years. Randy is a strong advocate of parent’s choice in education as well as individual learning plans for students.

Susan Self
Corporate Secretary |
Susan has worked in public education for the past 16 years in a variety of capacities such as administration, special education, classroom support, and most importantly parent. When she is not serving as Corporate Secretary for the Board she serves as Operation Coordinator for IEM. In this role she works with a team who are responsible for the day to day operation of IEM. The Operations Coordination Team ensures that policies, procedures, decisions all support the vision of IEM.
What draws you to the IEM Vision?
My belief that all students can be successful and successful may look totally different from one student to the next. Randy Gaschler’s vision of Parent Choice and Individual Learning Plans supports that belief.
What do you believe is the most valuable experience/expertise that you offer IEM as a Board Member?
I bring my experience as a parent, as school employee, and a friend of many parents with children with very different interest and abilities. |

Charles Ansbach
Board Member |
Charley Ansbach has worked successfully with a wide variety of organizations on local, state, national and international projects. Spanning a 30-year career in fundraising, his key skill is that of a strategist. His background includes capital campaign management, board and staff training, pre-campaign feasibility studies and donor interest cultivation campaigns, development audits, and organizational management. He currently is a consultant for Skystone Ryan, he was principal in the Sacramento-based consulting firm Ansbach & Associates for over 15 years. Mr. Ansbach serves on a variety of Boards of Directors, including the California Health Collaborative and the IEM charter school management organization. He was a Graduate Fellow in design at Indiana University.
What draws you to the IEM Vision?
The idea that each child can be taught according to his or her individual needs without additional burden to the education system.
What do you believe is the most valuable experience/expertise that you offer IEM as a Board Member?
Creative, strategic thinking, social enterprise development, and working as part of a smart team. |

Wayne Grist
Board Member

Current Employment and Employment History: Retired Civil Engineer. Civil Engineer for Southern Pacific Transportation Company, Civil Engineer for State of California Safety of Dams, Wayne L. Grist, Inc. Engineering. Consulting, Dams, Levees and Roads.
Education History: B.S.C.E. University of Nevada, Reno.
What draws you to the IEM Vision? To improve education system for ALL children.
What do you believe is the most valuable experience/expertise that you offer IEM as a Board Member? Operating a business for 25 years and my own experience traveling through the California education system. |

Mike Grandinetti
Board Member

Mike a native Californian, is recognized as a local, state and national leader in the field of youth development. He graduated from the University of California Davis with degrees in Psychology and Political Science. He has served as the Executive Director and the California Teacher Trainer for the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), an international nonprofit foundation teaching business to teachers and youth. He has taught business camps at several Colleges and Universities.
In 1995, he founded IOTA Enterprises a consulting business contracting with schools and community based organization teaching entrepreneurship, employability and life skill. He is also a national presenter for Monster.com World Wide.
What draws you to the IEM Vision? I am drawn to the vision because the focus is to do what is best for students. Randy’s vision for individual learning plans and parent choice has motivated my own career. |

Sharon Tobar
Board Member |
Sharon Tobar is currently the Chief Financial Officer at St. Francis High School. She has earned a MBA from Golden Gate University and a BS, Cum Laude, in Business Administration from the University of Maryland. Her experience as a controller and administrator has helped her create synergistic solutions to impacting problems at the companies that she has worked for and continuing that practice at St Francis High School.
Prior to her current position she was the Vice President of a consultation company where she consulted, trained, and presented concepts about the Predictive Index System for clients in the Sacramento region. Additionally, she founded the Sacramento Web awards and chaired the Executive Committee since inception.

Mike Yadon
Board Member |
Mike currently serves as the western states government affairs representative for the FedEx Corporation. He most recently served as the Director of Operations for Innovative Education Management, Inc. and Horizon Instructional Systems in Lincoln, CA. His professional background also includes serving as Chief Administrative Officer for the Sacramento County District Attorney and the Deputy Executive Director for the California District Attorneys Association. Mike has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Marketing and Finance) from California State University.
What draws you to the IEM Vision?
I had the privilege of working with IEM Founder (and my good friend) Randy Gaschler at both the predecessor of IEM, Horizon Instructional Systems, and IEM prior to my joining the IEM Board. It continues to be a privilege for me to serve as a Board member, as I am very much committed to our mission of honoring individual education choice and empowering parents and teachers to work with the students to collaboratively create learning opportunities.
What do you believe is the most valuable experience/expertise that you offer IEM as a Board Member?
I bring my historical hands-on business and administration perspective, serving as Director of Operations during IEM’s “evolution” from a single charter school to a public benefit, multi-charter school development and management organization, as well as being a parent of traditional public school-educated children. I have experienced both approaches to public education and believe in the concept of developing and providing a wide spectrum of educational programs to optimally meet students' needs. |
