WRAT4  TRAINING

The WRAT4 (Wide Range Achievement Test) assesses students in the areas of Letter Writing, Spelling, Math Computation, & Sentence Comprehension.

You may use the Blue or Green test interchangeably.  The different colors allow for re-testing.  It takes approximately 15-25 minutes to administer this test for students that are 5-7 years old.  For 8 years and older it will take 30-45 minutes.

WRAT4 Test Form is to be used by the Examiner.  The Test Form includes instructions for Word Reading, Spelling, and Math Computation subtests.  You will also use this to record and summarize the scores for each subtest.

WRAT4 Response Form is to be used by the student.  This form includes spaces for responding to both sections of the Spelling and Math Computation subtests.  These are color coded to coincide with the Test Form.

WRAT4 Word Reading List/Spelling List Card is two-sided; one side contains letters and words for the Word Reading subtest, which is used by the student.  The opposite side of the card contains letters and words for the Spelling subtest, which are dictated by the Examiner to the student.

WRAT4 Sentence Comprehension Test Form is used by the Examiner.  This form contains administration instructions, test items, spaces for recording responses, and examples of correct and incorrect responses for the Sentence Comprehension subtest.  These are also color coded.

WRAT4 Sentence Comprehension Card is used by the student.  This card contains the 50 Sentence Comprehension items.

WRAT4 Sentence Comprehension Sample Card contains sample items to be administered prior to administering the Sentence Comprehension subtest.  This is used with both test forms.

Please familiarize yourself with the WRAT4 Testing Manual.

Administering Procedures

5/7/10 Rules: Noted on the forms/cards pertaining to all four subtests.

·         For Word Reading, Spelling & Math Computation the “5 Rule” refers to the minimum number of items -5- that must be answered correctly in order to waive administration of the 15 preliminary items in each of the subtests. Please read pg. 7 in the Manual for more information.

·         For Sentence Comprehension, the “5 rule” consists of two parts: (a) a minimum of 5 words must be read correctly on the Part 2: Word Reading of the Word Reading subtest in order to meet the criterion for administration of Sentence Comprehension, and (b) a Student who begins Sentence Comprehension at a starting item other then Item 1 must answer 5 consecutive items correctly in order to establish a starting point.  If the 5 items are not answered correctly, the Student is tested backwards, or in reverse order, from the starting item until the student obtains 5 consecutive correct answers.  The “7 Rule” is the discontinue rule for the Sentence Comprehension subtest.  Testing is discontinued if the Student answers 7 consecutive items incorrectly

·         The “10 Rule” is the discontinue rule for the Word Reading and Spelling subtests.  It is unnecessary to administer items beyond a Participant’s ceiling level because it is highly unlikely that the student can give a correct response to items of that difficulty.  Therefore, after 10 consecutive errors on the Word Reading or Spelling subtest, discontinue administration.

Scoring Procedures:  Please refer to page 7 & 8 in the Manual for scoring the Word Reading Subtest, page 12 for Sentence Comprehension scoring, page 15 for Spelling Subtest, and page 19 for Math Computation.
