What is EOC?

End of Course (EOC)

End of Course (EOC) tests are additional CST tests given during STAR testing to students in grades 7-11 who are participating in a year-long course of study in a specific subject. These tests are in addition to the CST grade level tests that are included in their STAR test booklet. Not all students in grades 7-11 will be required to take an EOC. There is a set of criteria to determine if your student should take an EOC. FRED will automatically list the EOC that the student will be assigned based upon their report card course list.

We still need the ES to double check the information by November 12th to be sure that the correct test has been assigned and correct any database errors. If an ES recognizes that the student will not complete at least 85% of instruction in the course, they should remove the EOC from the student’s list. To find the EOC layout, go to "view" testing, choose the STAR tab, click on the student number, EOCs are in the grey “assigned EOC tests” box. If the box is empty, it is assumed that student has no EOC requirement in that subject. The specific EOC tests assigned per student are determined by criteria set forth by CDE (the links to the criterion are posted on the Assessment website). If you click on the grey button, you will see the current report card for the student. You may click Cancel on any EOC not wanted from this layout.
checkbox has been added to the Testing layout in FRED that needs to be checked after you look over your student’s assigned EOC test/s. If they are correct, please click in the checkbox to confirm. If a student drops or changes a course, please note this in the concerns box so we can get it changed.

Frequently Asked Questions

If a student starts Algebra 1 later in the school term and it will not be completed by the end of the year, does the student take the Algebra 1 EOC in the spring that year?

No, the student would not take the Algebra 1 EOC in spring because they will not complete the course by the end of the school year. If the student is in grade seven, he or she will take the CST for Mathematics (Grade 7). If the student is in grade 8 or 9, he or she will take the General Mathematics test.

If an 11th grader is taking and will complete World History by the end of the school year, will they take the World History EOC and US History?

Yes, US History is imbedded in the 11th grade CSTs, so all 11th graders will be tested in this subject, whether they are taking the course or not. An 11th grader who will be completing World History by the end of the school year will take both the imbedded US History and World History EOC.

If a student completes a course, takes the EOC, then repeats the course the following year, will they take that EOC again?

Yes, if the student will be completing the course during the current school year, he or she will take the EOC for that course.
