Unfinished Scantron Tests
Scantron
has been known to give students the “You have finished your test” prematurely.
To make sure that the student is actually finished with all of their tests, the
ES or Proctor will need to “check” the status of each test. To do this, log the student back in. If the test was actually completed a dialog box
will appear stating “The student has recently completed this test. Would they like to test
again?” Select “no”. Check
each test in this manner.
If
the test was ended prematurely, the ES/Proctor will get a box stating that the
student “will be continuing a previously started test…” This
means the test was not finished and the student should resume the test at that
time. You will need to check the test for completion after this session
as well. We have had a few of students who needed to continue a test several
times before it was really finished.
Scantron’s
tech support suggests the following be done prior to using a computer to test
students. Please do not do this on a student’s home computer without the
parent’s permission as it will delete their cookies folder:
**
Launch your internet browser to a site other than Ed Performance.
**
Go to “Tools” ---> “Internet Options” ---> “Settings” ---> “View Files”
---> “Edit” ---> “All” (files will
be highlighted) ---> “Delete the
Selected file” (to the left under folder tasks) ---> “OK”
This will clear out your
site id # so make sure that you have it!
Glitch on Public, Student or ES laptop
Computers
Similarly,
when a student is taking the test in a location other than the learning center,
the student may receive a "Congratulations! You are
Finished" only a question or two into a Scantron test. If your student receives this message on
the screen, please:
**
Obtain permission from parent (or other party if needed, i.e. librarian, etc.) to
proceed
if
the problem
seems to be
with
their computer.
**
Delete cookies and cache in Internet Explorer. Go to
"Tools" ---> "Internet
Options" ---> "General"
tab ---> "Delete files" and "Delete cookies".
**
Close Internet Explorer when you're done to clear cookies that are still in
memory from your current browsing session.

Press F5
on a PC or Z+3 on a Mac to refresh and return to the test.
Spoiled Tests
“Spoiled because of inactivity” Unfinished tests that are
inactive for two weeks are spoiled by the system. You will want to make certain that if your
students have been tested all of their tests are complete. If not, you
will want them to complete the test prior to the two week window.
Testing Irregularities Tests where the response pattern would yield
invalid results are spoiled by the system. Specifically, if 5 questions in a
row are answered in a rapid fire manner at a rate faster than possible to even
read the questions, and if those rapid answers are no better than guessing, the
test will be spoiled. To avoid this in the future, encourage students to make
an attempt at every question.
Special Directions for Non-Readers in 2nd
Grade
In
the fall, use the WRAT instead of
Scantron for any 2nd grade student who is a non-reader, unable to make
progress on the Scantron, timing out, and/or
experiencing sufficient frustration over the inability to read the
screen contents.
During
the regular Scantron testing time in the second semester, administer the WRAT, again, for comparison purposes.
Follow
directions for reporting WRAT
results to CWCS.
