· Sit with child at the computer and model for the child how to take the assessment. Walk them through the assessment.
BEFORE THE TEST:
· Set realistic expectations; remove time limits if possible, for the first assessment read the story to the student and model how to assess.
· Have children well rested
· Have a positive attitude
· Help children relax
· Answer questions about the test and walk them through it step by step.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT WE NEED TO MODEL CAREFULLY WHAT WE WANT THE
CHILDREN TO DO AND HOW TO APPROACH THE ASSESSMENT. WHAT

NON READER AND UNABLE TO READ THE ASSESSMENT AND CONTINUES TO SCORE POORLY ON
THE ASSESSMENT PLEASE PROCEED TO STEP 2.
STEP 2
· If test taking strategies are not the area of concern and reading level is the following recommendations are:
1. Purchase test prepping paper pencil material and do daily.
2. Practice computerized reading passages on the computer to build reading skills, fluency skills and test taking skills.

3. Change curriculum to fit the child’s reading ability and build towards grade level.
4. Get a Credentialed Tutor to service area of need.

Eliminate wrong answers
Pace yourself
Check answers at the end if time permits
Think positively
IF CHILDREN ARE STILL STRUGGLING AND LIMITED GROWTH IS
STEP 3
· Continue to model and practice reading material on a computer and how to do a computerized assessment.
· Continue to use paper pencil test prep material
· Continue to use appropriate instructional reading material to support the child’s needs and build up to grade level material.
