Math Test for students in Grades 8-11

All students in grades 8 and 9 are required to take a CST (California standards test) math test, based on math courses they are currently taking and math courses they have

completed. Some 10th and 11th grade students may not take a CST math test.

Use the following information to determine appropriate math tests:

General Math

8th and 9th grade students who are:

  • Not yet taking a standards-based math course
  • In first year of a two-year algebra I
  • Not taking math

Algebra I

  • 8th - 11th grade students who completed algebra I during the 2004 summer session or who will complete it by the end of the 2004-2005 year.

Geometry

  • 8th - 11th grade students who completed geometry during 2004 summer session or who will complete it by the end of the 2004-2005 year.

Algebra II

  • 8th -- 10th grade students who completed algebra II during the 2004 summer session or who will complete it by the end of the 2004-2005 year.
  • 11th grade students who will complete algebra II by the end of the 2004-2005 school year.

Example: Leslie took geometry last summer and is currently taking algebra

II. Leslie is to take the algebra II CST test.

Integrated Math 1

  • 8th - 11th grade students who completed integrated math 1 during the 2004 summer session or who will complete it by the end of the 2004-2005 year.

Integrated Math 2

  • 8th - 11th grade students who completed integrated math 2 during the 2004 summer session or who will complete it by the end of the 2004-2005 year.

Integrated Math 3

  • 8th - 10th grade students who completed integrated math 3 during the 2004 summer session or who will complete it by the end of the 2004-2005 school year.
  • 11th grade students who will complete integrated math 3 by the end of the 2004-2005 year.

High School Summative Math

  • 9th - 10th grade students who completed algebra II, integrated math 3 or an equivalent or higher math course by the end of the 2003-2004 school year.
  • Grade 10 students who took the test in grade 9.
  • Students who are taking no math course during the 2004-2005 year.
  • 11th grade students who will have completed algebra II, integrated math 3 or an equivalent or higher math course before the 2005 testing period.
  • Students who are taking no math course during the 2004-2005 year.

Example: Terry, a 10th grader, completed algebra II in 2004 and is currently enrolled in math analysis. Terry must take the CST high school summative math test.

 No CST Math

  • 10th and 11th grade students who did not complete a standards-based math course during the 2004 summer session and will not complete a standards-based math course during the 2004-2005 school year.

Example: Lee, a 10th grader, completed algebra I in grade 9 and is currently enrolled in consumer math. Lee will take no CST math test.

Note: If a student completed a standards-based math course during the 2004 summer school and is also taking a standards-based math course during the 2004 - 2005 school year, the student is to take the test for the course being completed during the school year.
